Electronic Publishing has come up with a very unique way
of presenting the Bible. MyBible v3.0 is software that
allows you to access every book, chapter and verse without
having to earmark your favorite pages or memorize every
word. Kickstartnews was given the New International Version
(NIV) of the Bible along with the NIV Study Bible Notes
to test, but you can also download the American Standard
Version, the King James Version, the New Living Translation
and even the Young’s Literal Translation to name
just a few.
Once
you launch the program you are brought immediately to Genesis,
in the beginning, and you notice that the page is littered
with little blue icons (different asterisks really). These
icons are key to the MyBible Software as they will bring
you directly to the accompanying study notes, cross references
within the bible version you are using and program footnotes
which include information such as alternate interpretations
of the original translated texts. Along the top of the
screen is information telling you what version of the bible
you're in (important if you purchase more than one version),
the book, chapter and verse number and a little bookmark
icon that will allow you to remember where you left off,
or your favorite pages. All of these tools work well alone
or in combination if you are seriously studying the bible,
helping you easily jump back and forth through related
text.
To further
assist your bible reading you can highlight your favorite
passages in six different colors (monochrome PDAs will
underline the text instead). Adding your own notes is easily
accomplished through the edit menu and a little yellow
page icon will appear beside the chapter number to indicate
the presence of notes.
Another way to quickly access the different books of the
bible is to simply click on the top right hand portion
of the screen where the current chapter is shown. At your
disposal will be every book from Genesis to Revelations.
Pick a book and you will be brought to a page showing every
chapter number and from there to every verse. If you know
where you want to go, getting there is easy.
If all you want to do is just turn the page and read the
Bible, that is also easily accomplished by tapping the
lower right corner of the screen to proceed to the next
page, or conversely, the top left corner to go back.
You don't have to be religious to find a use this software.
To be completely honest, it was watching a recent controversial
movie that prompted my interest in this kind of Palm OS
software and I was very pleasantly surprised that it even
existed. If you are looking for a convenient way to carry
around the entire text of your favorite version of the
Bible, this is a great way to go.
