Have
you always been a fan of Norton Antivirus or McAfee Antivirus
fearing any change to other, lesser known antivirus software
offerings? ESET Software's NOD32 is able to beat its competition
in every aspect including speed and reliability. According
to Virus Bulletin (www.virusbtn.com), NOD32 had fewer failures
than its competitors and has been praised for its performance.
NOD32
has many features including on-demand scanning and ANOM.
Anom32 is NOD32's on-access scanner that continuously
scans the system. It works quietly in the background
working until it detects viruses, trojans and worms.
If you try opening up an infected file, ANOM will alert
you. ANOM is also able to disinfect files without prompting
you. NOD32 scans incoming e-mail and alerts you if it
detects something. NOD32 also has the ability to scan
files that are in use (e.g.: DLLs).
I decided
to do a test comparison of McAfee VirusScan 7.0 and NOD32.
I ran a complete scan on my Windows XP system using NOD32
and attempted to do a full scan with McAfee Antivirus.
McAfee tended to lag on certain file types. NOD32 zoomed
right through. The speed of NOD32's scan engine amazed
me. I had to stop McAfee Antivirus after a while because
the process was taking an unusually large amount of time.
Those
interested in buying NOD32 should notice that it is offered
in a variety of languages and for a variety of platforms
including Windows and Linux. For only $40.00 it beats
what the competition is charging! Compare this price
with McAfee Antivirus' MSRP of $59.99 and Norton Antivirus'
MSRP of $49.95. Why pay more for a better known antivirus
software package when NOD32 tests as well or better at
detecting viruses and does so at a faster pace than its
competitors.
